What is the best way to wash the shemagh to make sure it lasts?

We find it best to hand wash the keffiyeh is to wash it with laundry soap in a cold water container and swish it or squeeze it but don't wring it. Then, place it in a towel so it will absorb the excess water and then hang it.(If you have to run it through a machine, use the gentle cycle)
